Cervical squamous cell carcinoma - symptoms and how to test

Cervical squamous cell carcinoma is a subtype of cervical cancer. The outer layer of the cervix is lined by tissue that contains squamous cells. Under a microscope, these cells have a scaly appearance, much like those found on fish. Squamous cell carcinomas are the most common kind of cervical cancer. The age of 21 is often recommended as the starting point for cervical cancer and precancerous alterations screening. The Pap smear is a type of screening test.
