Progesterone - symptoms and how to test
The ovarian corpus luteum produces the hormone known as progesterone. It plays an essential role in the menstrual cycle and in maintaining the early stages of pregnancy. Hormone replacement treatment, which includes progesterone, is used by women who have gone through menopause but have not undergone a hysterectomy (surgery to remove the uterus). Your doctor can tell if your ovulation is regular with a progesterone test. This test may be necessary to ensure a healthy pregnancy if you are currently expecting a child. Your doctor may suggest a progesterone test if you are at risk for miscarriage or other pregnancy issues.
