Polyps - symptoms and how to test
Typically seen on mucosal membranes, polyps are protruding growths of tissue. Besides the intestines and the rectum, the cervix, the ear canal, and the eardrum are all potential sites for polyp development. Polyps in the colon can form in anybody. Being over 50, being overweight, smoking, or having a personal or family history of colon polyps or colon cancer increases your likelihood of developing one of these diseases. Polyps, which can develop into cancer if not caught early, can be found using screening tests. These tests can also detect colorectal cancer at its earliest, treatable stages.
