Hyperthyroidism - symptoms and how to test
Hyperthyroidism, also known as hyperactive thyroid, is a condition in which the thyroid gland produces excessive thyroid hormones compared to what the body requires. The thyroid is a tiny gland that looks like a butterfly at the front of the neck. Although it can happen to males or women at any age, the condition is more frequent in women between the ages of 20 and 40. Thyroid tests are used by doctors to determine the health of a patient's thyroid as well as to investigate the causes of thyroid conditions such as hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism.
