Gluten ataxia - symptoms and how to test

In genetically predisposed individuals, eating gluten can cause an immune-mediated illness known as gluten ataxia. Rarely occurring gluten ataxia is an autoimmune disorder triggered by ingesting gluten, which causes the immune system to attack the neurological system. Both celiac disease and non-celiac gluten sensitivity have been linked to this. Researchers have suggested that gluten ataxia might account for as much as 41% of all cases of aetiology-unknown ataxia. Diagnosis of gluten ataxia is verified if there is stability or improvement of symptoms on a gluten-free diet.
