Genetic obesity - symptoms and how to test
Obesity is caused, in part, by genetic and epigenetic changes that affect metabolic system activity and the regulation of brain pathways and hunger centres. Both genetics and the environment influence the regulation of body weight. The overall heredity of obesity is between 40 and 70%. Both hereditary and environmental variables have a role in the development of obesity. It is advised that patients and their families undergo genetic testing for early-onset or syndromic types of obesity to aid in early diagnosis and tailor treatment accordingly.
